Club DJ. Mix Master. International tour DJ. Official DJ for Def Jam Recordings artist August Alsina, hip hop’s favorite Yungin’. Member of The Academy and Young California whose elite DJs and trendsetters stay a step ahead when it comes to music.
Whichever you choose, they all describe DJ Era whose talent hyping crowds and backing artists on stage has elevated him to new heights. When he’s not on the 1s and 2s at Atlanta’s hottest clubs, he’s performing on stages from New York’s Madison Square Garden to L.A.’s Staples Center to London’s O2 and Wembley Stadium.
“There’s nothing like it,” says Era, of traveling and living on the road. “Whether I’m traveling across the U.S. or around the world, I’m doing what I love. It’s really indescribable, having the power to reach out and control thousands of people with music. It’s crazy and a dream come true.”
Since joining Alsina, Era has opened on tour for music heavyweights including Usher,
Chris Brown, 2 Chainz and Pusha T, just to name a few. In addition, he’s performed in cities, large and small, across the U.S., shared the stage with comedian Kevin Hart for his annual “HartBeat Weekend,” rocked Ludacris’ annual “LudaDay Weekend,” was a featured DJ on Tom Joyner’s “Fantastic Voyage Cruise” to the Bahamas and Puerto Rico, and he’s toured U.S. military installations in Europe with rapper Yung Joc. Era’s grind has left an indelible mark with fans across Europe, in South Africa, Canada and parts of the Middle East.
Back home in Atlanta, DJ Era stays in demand. He has spun at listening parties, meet and greets, and worked as a house deejay at concerts and parties for an impressive list of celebs including Snoop Dogg, Lil Wayne and Rick Ross.
Era has checked in numerous times with Revolt TV and was a regular on BET’s former hit show “106 & Park.” He’s also appeared on (WVEE) V103.3 FM local radio station in Atlanta, GA; (WUBT) 101.1 FM “The Beat” in Nashville, TN; and satellite radio’s SiriusXM Shade 45.
His style and influence has even landed him a position as a Footaction Brand ambassador.
DJ Era, born Kevin Cox in Los Angeles, CA, was lured to the Peach State to attend Morehouse College where he graduated cum laude with a B.A. in business administration. His love of music deepened and his career began to flourish in spite of a few early doubters. “My college professors, even my parents, were skeptical,” he says. “A tour DJ isn’t your typical job or career.”
Maybe not. But there’s very little that’s typical about Era.
“It’s not like work if you’re waking up doing what you love to do every day,” he laughs. “I’m blessed to be living my dream.”
