Superbowl Sunday was a hard one for the Atlanta rapper 21 Savage. He was arrested in Atlanta by the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement with claims that he is actually a citizen of the United Kindom and has overstayed an expired Visa for a decade now.

Native name, Sha Yaa Bin Abraham-Joseph, is reported to have come to the US in 2005 as a minor and did not leave after expiration. He is now still in custody in Georgia.

An attorney spoke on his behalf:

“We are working diligently to get Mr. Abraham-Joseph out of detention while we work with the authorities to clear up any misunderstandings,” Dina LaPolt said in a statement to CNN.

“Mr. Abraham-Joseph is a role model to the young people in this country, especially in Atlanta, Georgia, and is actively working in the community leading programs to help underprivileged youths in financial literacy.”

The hip-hop community is coming to his defense and especially Cardi B when she responded to Tami Lahren’s insensitive twitter post mocking his song “Bank Account”.

We will see how this turns out for 21.
